Hi there,
This month's tip: stockpile leaves
Fallen leaves are the perfect brown. Rake a few bags full and keep them next to your bin. All year, when you add kitchen scraps, cover them with a couple of handfuls of leaves. You'll get fewer smells, fewer fruit flies and faster compost.
More in Greens and browns.
Problem solved: a smelly pile
A rotten-egg smell means too wet and not enough air. Add browns and turn it. See Why does my compost smell?
Reader question
"Can I compost in an apartment?" Yes. Freeze scraps and take them to a drop-off, or try a small worm bin. See Composting in an apartment.
Happy composting,
